Learn to make cocktails and tour a local distillery. The KC Cocktail Club is hosting a gathering from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday at the Lifted Spirits Distillery (1734 Cherry St.). Tickets are $30.
How about a sundae bar for dogs? Three Dog Bakery (602 W. 48th St.) is hosting an ice cream social for pups from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Dogs get an edible bowl, two scoops of ice cream and dog-safe toppings for $5.
Dust off your cut-offs and find your cholesterol medication because a pair of county fairs might be on the docket for you this weekend. The Leavenworth County Fair runs through Saturday. There’s a Monster truck show tonight and a rodeo tomorrow. The Douglas County Fair runs through Sunday with a demolition derby slated for tonight and a livestock auction on Saturday.

Author Bill Severns, one of the subjects featured in Call of The Sandlot, the upcoming Flatland documentary, has a new book. He’ll be signing copies of “Donuts, Diamonds, and Dreams,” at Donutology (1009 Westport Road) from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday. It’s a children’s book about donuts, baseball, and following your dreams that was illustrated by students at The Kansas City Art Institute.
There’s a pair of outdoor movie nights. Crown Center (2450 Grand Boulevard) is showing Jurassic World as part of its Weekender series on Friday night. The event starts at 6 p.m., and the movie should start roughly around 9 p.m. City Market Park (Third and Main) has The Big Lebowski that same night. Shown in conjunction with Alamo Drafthouse, which will be selling concessions, the event starts at 8:30 p.m. The Dude takes the screen at 9 p.m.
Good things happen when folks work together. Mass St. Fish House and Hank Charcuterie (1900 Massachusetts St., Lawrence, Kansas) are collaborating on a five-course prix fixe dinner ($55) Saturday with seatings at 6 and 8 p.m. Can’t make the dinner? They’re having a pop-up oyster bar starting at 3 p.m. for happy hour.
Toast the sunset at Nighthawk Vineyard and Winery (16381 W. 343rd St., Paola, Kansas). The Sunset Saturday wine dinner ($15) runs from 5 to 9:30 p.m. with bangers and mash, an heirloom caprese salad and a Black Forest brownie. Reservations are required.
