Cherry Bomb-A-Thon & Other Weekend Possibilities

The Cherry Pit Collective (604 E 31st St.) — a new communal artist studio space in the works — is holding the Cherry Bomb-A-Thon to raise funds and awareness from 6 to 11 p.m. tonight. There will be beer from the Cinder Block Brewery, cocktails from Urban Provisions and KC Canning Co., as well as a bonfire, s’mores, and sparklers. There’s also a cherry seed spitting contest and watercolor demonstration. Tickets are three for $10, seven for $20 or 18 for $50.

It’s summer and the Boulevard Drive-In (1051 Merriam Lane, Kansas City, Kansas) is back showing films, just as it has for the past 60 years. They sell beer (although you can also stock your own cooler), as well as a wide range of concession options at the snack bar (funnel cakes, cup of cheese, ice cream sandwiches, corn dogs, cotton candy). It’s $10 for adults and free for kids under 11 years old. Remember, it’s cash only.

If you want to make it an outdoor movie kinda weekend, than hit up the WeekEnder at Crown Center. The series of concerts and movies — running for the next five Fridays — begins with Drew Six and “The Goonies” tonight at 6 p.m. (The movie usually starts around 9 p.m.). Admission is free. No pets or booze allowed.

You don’t get a lot of chances to antique with a walking taco in hand. The 29th annual Bingham-Waggoner Antique & Craft Fair (313 W Pacific Ave., Independence, Missouri) is Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 100 craft and antique vendors will be on the grounds of the historic house. It’s also free.

The Pup Crawl, put on by the Young Professionals Board at Great Plains SPCA, is Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. It’s a dog-friendly pub crawl with stops at six Waldo bars (From The Well to KC Bier Co.). Tickets are $25 for the event and benefit the Great Plains SPCA. There’s an after party at KC Bier Co. from 5 to 6 p.m.

Beers and food trucks? You betcha. The Blue Moon Food Truck Festival is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Tank Room (1813 Grand Blvd.). There are four brews (including Blue Moon’s Cinnamon Horchata) paired with food from five trucks (Helen’s on Wheels, Wilma’s, El Tenedor KC, Twisted Asian, and Plantain District). Beer sale proceeds benefit the KC Pet Project.
