Torn Label’s Second Anniversary & Other Weekend Possibilities

Torn Label Brewing Company (1708 Campbell) is having a big week. Fresh off its release of cans, it holds a second-anniversary party at its taproom, starting at noon Saturday. Expect to see all 12 taps going, including its first-ever double IPA. Gustucide is an impressive 9.6 percent ABV and is hop-loaded. Also on offer: a barrel-aged Old Believer in bottles, as well as a Mimosa-inspired variation of Alpha Pale. The Pie Hole food truck will be there to keep you fed.

Kansas City Restaurant Week kicks off today and runs through Sunday, January 22. You can get $15 prix fixe lunches or $33 dinners at more than 180 restaurants in and around the Kansas City metro.

Ever want to see how the spirits are made? Union Horse Distilling Co. (11740 W 86th Terrace, Lenexa, Kansas) has a tour this Saturday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tours are $17 and advance purchase is required. You can e-mail tours@unionhorse.com or call (913) 492-3275 to buy a ticket.

Need help with your New Year’s resolutions? A franchise with a pair of new spots might just be the ticket. Eat Fit Go — a spot specializing in pre-packed, fresh meals — has opened in Prairie Village (4165 Somerset Drive) and Overland Park (4945 W 119th Street, #24). Breakfast is available all day (think egg scrambles and breakfast tacos), while lunch and dinner is a mix of bowls and a meat and veg. If you’re looking for a 2017 food trend in the Kansas City area, pre-prepped meals is a strong candidate.

Grand Street (4740 Grand Avenue) is hosting the second annual Lemon Mixer from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. They’ll have signature lemonade cocktails and small bites, along with music from Mary Sarah. Tickets are $50 and benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.

I’d like some wine…straight from the tank. Jowler Creek Winery (16905 Jowler Creek Road, Platte City, Missouri) is hosting its 10th annual Tank Tasting Party from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. You get to try Chambourcin and Norton straight from the tank, as well their 2016 vintages of Traminette, Vignoles, and Muskrato De Missouri. It’s $12 a person, which includes wine tasting and a glass to take home.

Want to get a lot closer to people you just met? There’s a Cards Against Humanity Competition hosted by Level Up Events at Opera House (500 Walnut Street) from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday. It’s $15 to enter in advance and $20 at the door, and that includes a drink ticket.

Don’t put away that Ugly Christmas Sweater yet. Fountain City Roller Derby is hosting an Ugly Sweater Party — Christmas or otherwise — at Neon Wild (1802 Clay Street, North Kansas City, Missouri) from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday.
