The Hungry Hatch has opened a permanent location at 23 E. Third St. in the City Market in addition to the food truck its been selling its bowls, wraps and salads from the past couple years.
The restaurant specializes in healthy dishes that cater to people with special dietary needs including dairy-free and/or gluten-free diets and lifestyle choices such as keto, paleo, pescatarian, vegan and vegetarian, according to a press release.
Menu items are inspired from around the world, and ingredients are freshly prepared daily. All meals are served in compostable bowls and other recyclable packaging.
The Thai spicy peanut sauce is house made, and Angela Maciel, the owner, expects the Indian Curry and Cuban Coconut rice bowls to be in high demand because they’re made with ingredients people don’t typically make for themselves, according to the release.
“We have fun on the job and want customers to feel our joy and taste it too,” Maciel said in a statement.
The name Hungry Hatch is a nod to the expression “down the hatch,” a favorite phrase of her grandmother, and to the hatch on her food truck.
The Hungry Hatch is open 11 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
