March 17, 2020  |    |  2 min read

Hops Hysteria, perhaps the only bracket left in the age of coronavirus, is now down to its Sweet 16. There are still nine of the original 31 breweries left in the competition.

Some huge upsets started piling up during the Thirsty 32 round. Four of 16 match-ups saw the lower-seeded beers win. Two top-seeded beers were beaten.

The upsets were: 9 seed Counterculture IPA by BKS over 1 seed Unfiltered Wheat by Boulevard; 6 seed Orange Gose by Crane over 3 seed Oatmeal Stout by Free State; 8 seed Tessellation Wheat IPA by Double Shift over 1 seed Single-Wide IPA by Boulevard; and 10 seed RAD AF by City Barrel over 3 seed Stormchaser IPA by Free State.

On to the next round. Elite 8 voting runs from now through Thursday, March 19, at noon.

The Sweet 16

1 seed Tank 7 by Boulevard vs. 4 seed Hefeweizen by KC Bier Co.

3 seed Yakimaniac IPA by Free State vs. 2 seed 80-Acre by Boulevard

Voting rounds start every Tuesday and Friday until March 31, when our first Hops Hysteria champion will be announced.

May the best beer win! Be safe out there, Kansas City.
