Holiday Pop-Ups Returning to Downtown

The holiday spirits are returning to downtown with the opening of two, festive pop-up bars, one in the Power & Light District, the other at the Boulevard Beer Hall.

Power & Light will be the new location this year for “Miracle” beginning Nov. 26 through the holiday season. The pop-up concept, which originated in New York City in 2014, had been located at the Rockhill Grille the past three years.

Rockhill will continue to operate the pop-up holiday bar, but the shift to the Power & Light is due to a remodeling project that converted its former location on the second floor into a new dining room for the restaurant.

Rockhill also will be operating Miracles at the Country Club Plaza, 4807 Jefferson St., and Town Center Crossing in Leawood. A private-event only Miracle space for large groups also will be downtown at 1617 Main.

“We’re thrilled to bring back Kansas City’s original holiday pop-up bar for a fourth year in a row,” Zach Marten, co-owner of the Rockhill Restaurant Group, said in a statement.

“Our Plaza location has become a holiday tradition for many and we’re excited to move into the Power & Light District and Town Center Crossing for the first time.”

The Power & Light location for Miracle will be in the Leinenkugels KC space at 1323 Walnut. The Leinie Lodge and Beer Garden, which is owned and operated by the Cordish Co., has been closed temporarily since the Covid pandemic.

A Cordish representative said there was no plan at this point to permanently close Leinenkugels KC.

Miracle will transform the Leinie space into a winter wonderland serving up holiday cocktails with nostalgic décor in a festive setting, according to a press release from the Power & Light District.

“The pop-up bar will open just in time for holiday office outings, cocktails with clients or friends and family gatherings,” John Moncke, president of the Power & Light District, said in a statement.

Walk-ins are allowed, but reservations are encouraged and will be available beginning November 12 at 10 a.m. Miracle at the Power & Light District will be open seven days a week.

Boulevard’s first-ever holiday pop-up bar is called “Rec Deck the Halls” and will be located in the Beer Hall‘s four-floor Rec Deck. It opens on Dec. 3 and will run Fridays through Sundays during the holiday season.

The plan calls for the Rec Deck to be transformed into what’s being called a “holiday experience featuring exclusive festive cocktails, frozen Flings, Quirktails and a bevy of boozy, barrel-aged beers.”

A spacial Belgian-style Holiday Ale will be released by Boulevard and also available at the Beer Hall gift shop. The gift shop also will feature holiday apparel and a Beer Advent Calendar.

Admission to the Rec Deck The Halls is $5 with all proceeds benefiting Kansas City G.I.F.T., a nonprofit that provides grants for Black-owned businesses. Individual seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis, however groups over 10 must have a reservation.

Boulevard also will be hosting its fifth annual Holiday Bizarre shopping event on Dec. 19 in the Tours & Rec Center. Local vendors will be selling their wares and the festivities will include Sunday Bingo, live music, food specials and more.
