Halloween Celebrations Galore & Other Weekend Possibilities

The Power & Light District is hosting Dead or Alive! Saturday. The massive costume party, which kicks off at 7 p.m., is free. You can also buy a drink package for $25. Watch the movie, “Halloween,” on the big screen on the KC Live! stage at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

The zombie theme is a big one, with Knuckleheads Saloon (2715 Rochester Ave.) hosting a Zombie Halloween “Disco is Dead” party Saturday. Come dressed as one of the extras from “The Walking Dead” and listen to Boogie Wonderland. Tickets are $10 and the doors open at 7:o0 p.m. Ruins Pub (1715 Main St.) is hosting a Halloween Party on Saturday from 6 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. There’s a $10 all-you-can-eat appetizer bar, beer cocktails and a costume contest. Davey’s Uptown Rambler (3402 Main St.) wants you in your creepy best from 8 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. They’re showing “Horror High” and The Cave Girls are playing.

You’ve got two shots at a Halloween-themed pub crawl with Crawloween in Waldo. On Friday, you can check in at The Well between 8 and 10 p.m. and then show off your costume at Tanner’s, Lew’s, Bobby Baker’s and Charlie Hooper’s. On Saturday, check in is the same, but they’ve added a trolley that will run from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., as well as Quinton’s, Michael Forbest, Fred P. Ott’s and O’Dowds to the crawl. Tickets are $18 on Friday, $26 on Saturday, and include a pair of $5 gift cards.

Vegan? Love Trick-or-Treating? Mud Pie Vegan Bakery & Coffeehouse is hosting a Halloween Party (1615 W. 39th St.) with vegan treats for kids from 7 to 8 p.m. with a showing of “Paranorman.” The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City (2502 Cherry St.) is throwing a proper street festival on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. The 11th annual Trunk or Treat will have mini horses, carnival games, balloon animals and trunks filled with treats.

The 37th annual American Royal World Series of Barbecue has a new home. The party starts today at the Kansas Speedway (400 Speedway Blvd., Kansas City, Kansas) with live acts and plenty of merriment (make sure you know somebody throwing a shindig, so you can get a plate of barbecue). Also, stop by the Flatland table from some free items. Tickets are $23. Parking is free.

Wines with Canines is this Sunday at the Somerset Ridge Vineyard and Winery (29725 Somerset Rd., Paola, Kansas). Bring your pup and hang out on the patio with a glass of wine from 12 to 5 p.m. at a benefit for the Great Plains SPCA.

Put this on your to do list. The Boulevard Brewing Company is hosting an Ice Scream Social with Glacé and Christopher Elbow on Sunday in the Beer Hall (2534 Madison Ave.) from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wear a costume and get a full pour. Come in as average folks and try the three ice cream treats: Tropical Pale Ale Ice Cream Sundae with mango-lime sauce and toasted coconut flakes, a Ginger Lemon Radler sorbet and The Calling float, and a mini stout chocolate dipped ice cream bar. Advance tickets are $12. Tickets at the door are $15.
