Irish Winterfest & Other Weekend Possibilities

Irish Winterfest is this Saturday at the Irish Center of Kansas City (19 W Linwood Boulevard) from 3 to 11 p.m. They’ll have live music, traditional dancing, whiskey tasting, and food from Browne’s Irish Market. Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door.
One More Cup (7408 Wornall Road) — the folks who will put a sprinkle rim on your latte — turns eight years old on Saturday. Free chocolate chip cookies with a drink purchase and giveaways.
While you’re in Waldo, you can check out Boru Ramen (500 W 75th Street). The new ramen shop from the team behind The Summit Grill, which recently opened in the former 75th Street Brewery space, opened this week. They’ve got baos (steamed buns), ramen, and bibimbap.

Need some more color in your life? The Colaboratory (2010 Baltimore) is hosting a Color Wheel Potluck on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. Bring a colorful dish for the potluck and then get ready to eat and chat.
Make it a beer and barbecue kind of day on Saturday. The BBQ & Brews Tour will leave from the Shawnee Civic Center (13817 Johnson Drive, Shawnee) at 8:30 a.m. with Bill Nicks taking folks on a journey through Kansas City’s barbecue history. There will be a stop at the BBQ Hall of Fame, lunch at Arthur Bryant’s, and beer at Border and Stockyards Brewing Company, before you return at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $69 and you must preregister.
Want something a little sweet with your salty? Joe’s Kansas City just rolled out dessert. It’s a bowl of apple crisp made with Granny Smith apples and raisins that are topped with a baked oatmeal streusel, whipped cream, and chopped pretzels.
A little bit of Mardi Gras is coming to Kansas City. Brewery Emperial (1829 Oak Street) is hosting a Midwest Mardi Gras from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday to benefit No Kid Hungry. There will be King Cake from Sasha’s Baking Co., and New Orleans-style fare from chefs Debbie Gold, Ted Habiger, Ryan Brazeal, Celina Tio, and John C. Smith. Tickets are $60.
While it’s not this weekend, I wanted to give you advance notice. Betty Rae’s (7140 Wornall Road) returns from its winter break on Wednesday, March 1. So, exercise or eat ice cream this weekend. I won’t tell you how to pre-game.
