Victoria Afternoon Tea & Other Weekend Possibilities

The Ainsworth (11563 Ash Street, Leawood, Kansas) hosts The Bumble Games from 8 to 10:30 p.m. Friday night. It’s a beer pong tournament with two drinks included ($15). This is the only local outpost for the restaurant and bar, which has locations in New Jersey and New York City, and is known for its macaroni-and-cheese burger.

The Ainsworth added Saturday brunch earlier this month. You can now get brunch — on the menu is a breakfast burger with a sunny side up egg or chicken and waffles — from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Tiki Taco (1710 W. 39th St.) has expanded on 39th Street. The late-night taco spot, which opened last summer, has added a dining room next door. Tiki Taco has fish tacos (beer-battered pollock), as well as elote (grilled corn on the cob topped with mayo, chili spice and queso fresco) and deep-fried cheesecake. Vegans and vegetarians can dig in on jackfruit tacos with vegan cheese or nachos topped with fried cauliflower.

Staying up late? Starting this weekend, Artego Pizza (900 W. 39th St.) will begin offering delivery until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. Artego has a sopapilla pizza dusted in cinnamon, sugar and honey, if you want something sweet, or the 39th Street (their version of a Supreme with Scimeca sausage, beef, green peppers, olives, red onion and mushrooms).

Jerry Naster is back in town and making breakfast. The chef and owner behind the Woodswether Cafe in the West Bottoms and at 103rd Street and State Line Road, has a new breakfast spot: Original Cafe (7552 W. 119th St., Overland Park, Kansas). The cafe opened recently in the Rosana Square shopping center and features oversized pancakes (a Naster staple), a ham, steak and eggs dish and diner classics like liver and onions, meatloaf and chicken-fried steak. The Original Cafe is open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

In honor of its 40th anniversary, Pirtle Winery (502 Spring St., Weston, Missouri) is hosting a Tank, Barrel and Bottle Tasting from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday. You’ll get to sample wine from the tanks and barrels, as well as bottles, alongside owner Scott Pirtle. The winery will also have cheese and chocolate pairings for the wines you try on the tour.

Eat your way across New York City at the Kearney Culinary Academy (105 S. Jefferson St., Kearney, Missouri). The cooking school is hosting Demo Dinner: New York, I Love You, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday. The bar opens 45 minutes before dinner and the five-course meal will feature dishes that pay homage to the menus at Le Cirque, Tavern on the Green and the Waldorf Astoria, among others. Reservations are required.

Things get spooky on Saturday night as the Belvoir Winery and Inn (1325 Odd Fellows Road, Liberty, Missouri) hosts a Paranormal Investigation from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. You can see if you think the Liberty, Missouri, winery is haunted, as a group of paranormal investigators lead you through the building and grounds.

Clock Tower Bakery (7911 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas) is hosting a Victoria Afternoon Tea on Sunday with seatings at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 3 p.m. The menu will include tea sandwiches, cookies, macarons scones, and British tea. Reservations are required and can be made by calling (913)-948-9559.

Blaze Pizza, a California import, will open Monday in Olathe at 11983 S. Black Bob Road. Blaze has quick-fired, customizable pizzas (the Art Lover has artichokes, chopped garlic, mozzarella, ricotta and red sauce), salads (roasted squash and quinoa), and a S’more pie or olive oil brownie for dessert. Another location is in the works in Liberty.
