Let’s Wine About Winter & Other Weekend Possibilities

Liberty hosts its eighth annual Let’s Wine About Winter celebration from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. It’s a shop crawl with 25 downtown Liberty businesses each having a different wine to sample. Tickets are $20.

Celebrate the Chinese New Year at the Plaza branch (4801 Main St.) of the Kansas City Public Library from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday. A day after the Year of the Dog officially kicks off, you can munch on dumplings from Bo Lings, see tai chi and dance performances, and, of course, meets dogs from the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City.

Burg & Barrel (7042 W. 76th St., Overland Park, Kansas) celebrates its fifth anniversary with a series of craft beer releases and liquor specials Saturday from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. The burger and beer bar has a fried soft shell crab burger and a salmon BLT or they’re more than happy to put avocado or a fried egg on your burger. If you’re looking to make the most of an hour, Burg & Barrel taps brandy barrel-aged MILF from Mother’s Brewing at 3 p.m. and Boulevard’s Rye on Rye on Rye 2016 at 4 p.m.

Oregano & Thyme, a Mediterranean market and deli, is open at 6116 Johnson Drive, in Mission, Kansas. Oregano & Thyme has soup (ham, cannellini beans, and kale, and Greek Avgolemono — an egg and lemon soup with chicken and rice — were recent offerings) and sandwich specials (spicy capicola), as well as baked goods (savory like Strifti, a Greek spinach pie, or pain au chocolat). And keep an eye out for house baked baguettes. The deli and market is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Harvesters Canstruction, a collection of sculptures made from canned goods and nonperishable items, will be at Oak Park Mall (11149 W 95th St., Overland Park, Kansas) through Feb. 28. At the end of the month, the models are deconstructed and all of the cans and boxes are donated to Harvesters. The exhibits are on the first level of the mall.

Mad Man’s KC BBQ is open in the Lenexa Public Market at 8750 Penrose Lane. Mad Man’s started as a food truck, but has since grown into a brick-and-mortar location alongside a pair of trucks. Mad Man’s serves pulled pork, brisket, and ribs, but also has a Reuben, smoked turkey leg special (on Tuesdays), street tacos, and baked potato salad. For dessert, you can get liquid nitrogen ice cream. The new restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Have Coffee with a Cop on Saturday between 8 and 10 a.m. at Hy-Vee (13400 W. 87th Parkway, Lenexa, Kansas). Hy-Vee provides a free cup of coffee and donut holes for the conversation with a police officer.

Bon Bon (804 Pennsylvania St., Lawrence, Kansas) has a special Valentine’s Day menu that lasts all week. The menu, available through Sunday, is a three-course prix fixe ($30), that includes optional wine ($12) or beer ($10) pairings. You can get artichoke and ricotta crepes, braised beef short ribs with potato beet pancakes, and bananas foster coffee cake.

Kung Fu Tea, a bubble tea concept out of New York City, is open at 7504 W. 119th St. in Overland Park, Kansas. At Kung Fu Tea, you pick a topping ranging from red beans to pudding to tapioca balls and how much sugar or ice you want. You can get milk tea, slushes (mix of powder and ice), punch (tea or juice based typically mixed with something sweet like mango or honey), or a milk strike (whole milk plus brown sugar). They do serve lactose-free and non-dairy milk. Kung Fu Tea is open from 11:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 12 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
