Farmers & Friends Meeting & Other Weekend Possibilites

Meet a farmer this weekend. Or meet someone who wants to meet a farmer. Cultivate Kansas City is holding its 13th annual Farmers & Friends Meeting from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Second Presbyterian Church (318 E. 55th St.). It’s a chance for the community to connect and discuss the state of farming in Kansas City, as well as learn about issues of waste, marketing and selling, and maintaining healthy soil. There’s coffee and pie for breakfast and a potluck lunch (so bring a dish if you’re attending). Tickets are $5.

Find your perfect roast with Maps Coffee’s (13440 Santa Fe Trail Drive, Lenexa, Kansas) Guest Roaster program. Maps is holding two classes this weekend: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday and 3 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Learn about coffee origins, the harvest, and the roasting process. Then head home with two 12-ounce bags of coffee. The class is $35.

Brewery Emperial (1829 Oak St.) is celebrating its first anniversary Friday and Saturday. They’ll have a special tapping at 4 p.m., along with a photo booth, and Groundhog-inspired art.

Larkburger (4800 Main St., Suite 102), a Colorado import, is open just off the Plaza. It’s a burger spot that goes beyond beef. You can get a burger with turkey, tuna, chicken or Angus beef. Vegetarians can get a portabella burger or should consider the chopped kale salad. The sides are eclectic: skin-on fries live alongside edamame. You can also add a milkshake, because why not? Larkburger has a second area location at 13611 Metcalf Ave. in Overland Park, Kansas. Both locations are open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

You now have an excuse to wear your onesie in public. The 2018 Kansas City Onesie Bar Crawl is from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday in the Power & Light District. Check in at No Other Pub between 3 and 5 p.m. The event starts with a free drink and a shot, and then after that you can hop between six different bars.

Eat chocolate. Help others. The Chocolate Crawl for a Cause is from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday. The benefit for Lee’s Summit Social Services will have chocolate surprises and discounts around downtown Lee’s Summit businesses. You can get chocolate in pizza, martini, beer, pie, or, even, chocolate form.

Monarch Coffee (3550 Broadway), which recently began serving pastries from 1900 Barker, is hosting a pop-up with the Lawrence, Kansas, bakery from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. 1900 Barker will have hearth breads and breakfast sandwiches.

You deserve a drink. Union Horse Distillery (11740 W. 86th Terrace, Lenexa, Kansas) is opening its doors for a tour from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Learn how the Lenexa operation makes its spirits. Tickets are $17 and must be purchased ahead of time.
