Downtown CVS Store Closed Temporarily for Remodeling

The CVS store at 921 Main, downtown’s only full-service pharmacy, has closed for a major remodeling project and expects to reopen about mid-June.
The overhaul is part of the $139 million redevelopment of the historic Commerce Tower at 911 Main. The 30-story former office tower was converted into 355 apartments last year.
The CVS is located next door to Commerce Tower, and signed a 20-year lease that included plans for a substantial upgrade including removing the window covering on Main to make it more inviting to passersby, according to a release from the Downtown Council.
Kurt Reis, manager of the store, said in the release the remodeling will include new shelves, new carpeting, an expanded pharmacy, a revolving door entrance and a new layout of the aisles and cash registers. The stores product and grocery mix is not expected to change significantly.
While the remodeling is underway, pharmacy customers can pick up their prescriptions at the CVS located at 3902 Main St. Customers can also choose another CVS location to pick up their prescriptions. For more information, customers should contact the pharmacy staff at 3902 Main at 816-931-5452.
The CVS at 921 Main almost closed in 2006, but remained after intense lobbying by city and downtown advocates. It got into another tussle in 2015, when the Commerce Tower Group threatened to end its lease if it didn’t make substantial improvements.
