Diversity is the topic for event hosted by KC Mayor Sly James and KCPT

February 25, 2015  |    |  1 min read

Join the producers of Your Fellow Americans and Mayor Sly James for a free panel discussion on race, immigration and the American Dream.

The discussion takes place tonight, Wednesday, Feb. 25, 5:30 p.m to 7:30 p.m., at the Gem Theater.

“The event is an opportunity for members of the larger Kansas City community to join together for an evening of dialogue on difficult topics,” said series producer Christopher Cook, “and to leave with tools for continuing the conversation in their own homes, neighborhoods and social circles.”

Panelists include Sly James, mayor of Kansas City, Missouri; Cielo Fernandez, chief program officer at El Centro, Inc. in Kansas City, Kansas; Michelle T. Johnson, columnist for the Kansas City Star; Paul Gutiérrez, a community outreach advocate/coordinator in Kansas City, Missouri; and Dr. Sofia Khan, founder of the Kansas City chapter of Muslim Youth of North America.

The 90-minute discussion will be moderated by KCPT’s Nick Haines, host of “Kansas City Week in Review,” and will conclude with an audience Q&A.

For more information on the event and to RSVP, visit KCPT’s events page.
