Pressure Mounts on Chiefs, Royals to Decide

A deadline is forcing the owners of the Chiefs and Royals to finally pick a side: Kansas or Missouri?

A Kansas offer that would pay up to 70% of the construction costs for building new stadiums for the teams expires at the end of the week.

Kansas legislative leaders say they have no plans to extend the June 30 deadline.

Sizzling and Baking in KC

There’s no shaking the sizzling temperatures baking Kansas City.

The National Weather Service has a Heat Advisory in effect until 7 p.m. tonight as the “feel-like” temperature hits 103 degrees today.

We’re not expected to drop into the 80s until Sunday. Meanwhile, our local TV weather forecasters are struggling to predict when we might see rain again.

Big Budget Vote: It’s “go time” in the Senate this week for President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill.” The sprawling budget measure covers everything from eliminating taxes on tips to cutting tax credits for buying electric vehicles. It also places new restrictions on Medicaid and food stamp programs. Trump says he wants it passed by the end of the week before Congress leaves town for its extended Fourth of July break.

Gay Marriage Milestone: This Thursday marks the 10th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage.

Weird Al Yankovic brings his Bigger & Weirder Tour to Starlight Theatre on Thursday night.

Big Country Music Names in KC

Grab your boots and hat, some of country music’s biggest music stars will be in town this weekend as the Country Stampede music festival returns to Azura Amphitheater in Bonner Springs, Kansas.

Luke Bryan and Miranda Lambert headline the three-day outdoor music and camping event, which starts Friday evening.

Great Lenexa BBQ Battle

If you get overpowered by the sweet and smoky aroma of burnt ends, brisket and sizzling ribs this week, you’re likely driving through Lenexa.

The Great Lenexa BBQ Battle is this weekend, and after more than 40 years of competition, the event has now been upgraded to the official Kansas State Barbecue Championship.

One hundred fifty teams compete for the $3,000 grand prize. You can compete for the leftovers on Friday and Saturday at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park.
