Brown & Loe is open & Other Weekend Possibilities

The chicken is smoked, the trout is plated, and Brown & Loe (429 Walnut Street) is now open. The newest restaurant from Harry Murphy (of Harry’s Country Club) opened the doors at the City Market earlier this week.

Chef Jamie Paul plans to make abundant use of the market just outside its door, as well as braising and smoking meat and fish. The restaurant draws its name from the produce broker that was in the same location 70 years ago. Brown & Loe is open daily from 7 to 10:30 a.m. for breakfast, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch, and 5 to 10 p.m. for dinner (they close at 8 p.m. on Sunday).

Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar (4814 Roanoke Parkway) is celebrating National Oyster Day today by giving away a free half dozen oysters to the first 100 folks that arrive. The National Oyster Day promotion kicks off at 3 p.m.

Oysters not your thing? Andy’s Frozen Custard is celebrating the opening of their frozen treat shop at 1000 Northwest Highway 7 in Blue Springs, Missouri. Today from 11 a.m. to midnight, they’re offering $1 regular, one-topping sundaes.

The Southwest X Central Street Fest (2040 Central Street) returns for a fourth year tonight from 6 to 10 p.m. The street festival put on by Imagine That! features live music, sculpture and fiber work, as well as cold brew from PT’s Coffee, and ice cream treats from Poppy’s Ice Cream Truck.

If it’s going to be a billion degrees, you might as well pretend you’re at a beach. Thou Mayest Coffee Roasters (419 E 18th Street) is hosting the ‘Thou Mayest Beach Party.‘ They’ll have a new coffee release, as well as Tiki-themed drinks, and a DJ spinning tunes.

Life can be simple. So can lunch. The Pitch’s Steer & Beer is Saturday from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Waldo Outdoor Pavilion (210 W 74th Terrace). They’ll be sampling more than 100 beers and your ticket includes one burger from the participating restaurants. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door.

You’ve got to keep your core temperature low. One solution? Wine Slushies. Stone Pillar Vineyard & Winery (11000 S Woodland Road, Olathe, Kansas) is offering up Wine Slushies and appetizers from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tomorrow. You’ll get four small wine slushies and four appetizers (think bacon apricot roll-ups and jalapeno poppers) for $25.
