Art in Kansas City is as visible as the scent of KC barbecue is palpable.
The Flatland team of reporters, editors and producers know there are stories we haven’t tapped into yet, which is the motive for this call for questions.
Can you, KC art lover, enthusiast, collector, novice, historian or anyone, help us? What area-specific arts and culture stories are missing?
As Flatland reported in 2017, the arts play a significant role in the regional economy. ArtsKC says the arts and culture sector is the city’s third-largest private-sector employer. And in that employer group, there are different kinds of art and culture professions. Within those professions are a diverse group of people from all walks of life, with different cultural and religious beliefs.
The goal of this call-out is to identify the gaps in our reporting and tell stories about the arts in a more nuanced way.
For instance, what do you want to know about arts and culture business, history, faith, people or demographics? We want to tell those stories.
