Weekend Possibilities | Radkey, Chiefs and Christmas Day at the Movies

December 22, 2022  |  Clarence Dennis  |  3 min read

Take a break from family time for a rock show at recordBar, Christmas in the Park or Saturday’s matchup at Arrowhead Stadium.

You could save sneaking out on the holiday weekend for a Sunday at the movies.

Friday, Dec. 23

6 – 8 p.m. PH Coffee, 2200 Lexington Ave., has been transformed into the ”Northeast Pole” for the holiday weekend. Stop by the coffee shop pop-up experience for holiday-themed drinks, a winter makers market, music, activities and more. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.

7 p.m. Local, live music will be on full display Friday night with Radkey XMAS Evil Eve at recordBar, 1520 Grand Blvd. The St. Joseph, Missouri, band of brothers will be supported by Kansas City’s own Frogpond and The Many Colored Death on the bill. General admission tickets are $18. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

7:30 p.m. The Bird Comedy Theater, 103 W. 19th St., Holiday Spectacular is set for Friday evening at the Crossroads. Reserve your spot in advance to catch hilarious performances, a visit from holiday mascots and plenty of good cheer. Tickets are $15.

7:30 – 9 p.m. A Spectacular Christmas returns to the Music Theater Heritage, 2450 Grand Blvd., this weekend. What has become a Kansas City holiday tradition, the original performance includes innovative takes on classic holiday tunes to sing along to, plus dancing and more in a high-energy environment that even a Grinch could feel. Tickets to the show start at $39.

Saturday, Dec. 24

Noon As Christmas Eve temperatures fall, so do second-sale ticket prices for the Chiefs’ Saturday afternoon matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. If this feels like your chance to see Patrick Mahomes and company live and in-person at Arrowhead Stadium, 1 Arrowhead Drive, coming off the team’s seventh-consecutive AFC West Championship, be sure to dress warmly. Think Randy from “A Christmas Story” warm.

5:30 – 11 p.m. The winter wonderland at Longview Lake Campground’s Christmas in the Park, 11101 Raytown Rd, is welcoming visitors on Christmas Eve. Drive through the display featuring 1 million lights and more than 200 animated displays with no reservation needed. There is an option to donate to a local charity at the end of the experience. Arrive early, Christmas Eve lines can be long.

Sunday, Dec. 25

Noon, 3:30, 5:30 & 8 p.m. Whether you live in Lawrence or are willing to make the drive, a screening of “Home Alone” at the historic Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St., is in the cards for Christmas Day movie-goers. Lights up and down Mass Street should only add to the ambience. Just don’t forget your youngest at home.
