Weekend Possibilities | KC Pride, Future Stages and KC Current vs. Gotham FC

Pick from a new pop-up bar in North Kansas City or the KC Current’s match Saturday night against Gotham FC. Alternatively, the party at PrideFest will be raging all weekend.

Whatever is in the works this weekend, wear sunscreen.

Friday, June 10

5 – 10 p.m. Kansas City Pride Parade & Festival weekend is here. The party surrounding Frank A. Theis Park, Oak and 47th streets, starts Friday evening with live entertainment, vendor booths, family activities, games and much more. PrideFest extends through the weekend. Saturday morning’s parade starts at 11 a.m. Daily admission is $5. Empty water bottles that can be filled on site are permitted.

5:30 – 7:30 p.m. If Friday night is for the family, the Kansas City Library Plaza Branch’s, 4801 Main St., Art with Force and Gravity will provide the chance for little ones to explore science and art with hands-on fun. June’s Friday Night Family Fun event will give kids the space and materials to experiment with spinner art, splatter and sprinkle painting to create their own masterpiece. RSVPs are appreciated.

6 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. A new pop-up bar from Big Rip Brewing Co., 216 E. 9th Ave., has creepy written all over it. The Sweeney Todd-themed Fleet Street will be complete with Victorian decor and “Demon Barber” inspired cocktails. The pop-up lasts just three weekends. Table reservations for 90 minutes are up for grabs. A $5 reservation fee is required. 

Saturday, June 11

9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Calling all car people. Crown Center Square, 2425 Grand Blvd., is set to host Saturday’s Heartland All British Car Show and Jaguar Concours D’Elegance. Exclusively British cars and Jaguars will be on display from throughout the region. Stick around to find out which rides are award worthy. The car show is completely free to attend.

10 a.m. – 10 p.m. The 65th Prairie Village Art Show is this weekend. Stop by The Shops of Prairie Village, 6920 Mission Road, for a full day of community, culture and creativity across the outdoor shopping space. Plans for the weekend include food, drinks, live music and works on display from 100 local and regional artists. The Prairie Village Art Show is free.

7:30 p.m. The Kansas City Current squares up with NJ/NY Gotham FC Saturday night at Children’s Mercy Park, 1 Sporting Way. KC’s National Women’s Soccer League club will look to return to winning form, taking on sixth-place Gotham FC. Tickets start at $10.

Noon – 1 a.m. Virtual reality arcade and bar DoubleTap KC is celebrating its second anniversary with a bash in the River Market, 310 Oak St. The three-day celebration includes deals on VR games, discounted drinks, themed costume contests, a bottomless mimosa brunch and more. Sunday, June 12 

11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Hundreds of youth performers will come together at Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, 1601 Broadway Blvd., Sunday for Future Stages Festival 2022. The free event will showcase Kansas City’s next generation of talent in music, poetry, dance, storytelling and more across multiple stages. No tickets are required, though an RSVP enters you for the chance to win tickets to upcoming Kauffman Center events. A full stage schedule is available online.

8 p.m. An absolute classic returns this week to the stage at Starlight Theatre, 4600 Starlight Road. Round out the busy weekend with Sunday’s final performance of You Can’t Stop the Beat! Hairspray — the latest touring edition of the hilarious and charming Broadway musical. Be sure to check out the full schedule of performances for your chance to sing along.
