Weekend Possibilities | Chiefs Watch Parties, Wonderscope’s New Space and Live Music

While Kansas City awaits the Chiefs’ third straight AFC championship game come Sunday, live music, and family friendly events are on the schedule for January’s penultimate weekend.

Friday, Jan. 22

There’s a new experience for little ones at The Regnier Family Wonderscope Children’s Museum of Kansas City, 433 E. Red Bridge Road. Wonderscope is dedicated to providing educational experiences to children through hands-on exhibits designed to explore Kansas City. Be sure to register online for a ticket for either 9 a.m. to noon or 1 – 4 p.m. to ensure space for social distancing. Admission is $12 for children and $9 for adults.

7:30 p.m. Brigett & Her Bandoliers are bringing blues to Knuckleheads Saloon, 2715 Rochester Ave., to start the weekend. Grab a ticket to the show and you’ll get 10% off in the gift shop the night of the show. You must be 21 or older to attend. Tickets are $8.

Saturday, Jan. 23

11 a.m. – 1 p.m. The Conut Factory is teaming up with PH Coffee for a tasty morning in the Historic Northeast of Kansas City at 2200 Lexington Ave. Swing by the corner coffee shop for a cup of java and an either sweet or savory Hungarian chimney cake.

7 – 9:00 p.m. Artistic types are getting ready for gameday Saturday night at Pinot’s Palette, 4165 N. Mulberry Drive, with a Starry Night at Arrowhead-Paint Party. Chiefs fans will paint a silhouette of the hometown stadium against a red and yellow sky ahead of Sunday’s AFC championship game, all while enjoying a favorite bottle of wine. Reserve a spot for $36.

7:30 – 10:30 p.m. Apex Aleworks Brewery & Taproom has plans for live music on Saturday night. The Independence brewery at 4356 S. Noland Road is asking guests to mask up and show up for a soulful performance from KC band Stranded in The City. Come hungry. In addition to more than a dozen craft beers on tap, Apex serves homemade paninis and pizza. Get there early for $2 off flights during happy hour starting at 5:30 p.m.

8 – 10:00 p.m. You can support local musicians and venues alike from the comfort of your own home via livestream courtesy of The Rino. Stream the live performance from Trevor Turla with special guest Fritz Hutchison, who will share the stage with a handful of local backing musicians for $10

Sunday, Jan. 24

11 a.m. The party will be on well before kickoff at Brew Lab’s AFC Championship Watch Party in Overland Park, 7925 Marty St. Football fans can expect happy hour prices all day long on beer and food. There’ll be $1 off house beers, $5 small plates and Kansas City wings. The game will be on the big screen at 5:40 p.m.

1 – 3 p.m. Foodie families and aspiring chefs should set off on a tasty trip to Taste Bud’s Kitchen, 5336 W. 151st St. in Leawood. Sign up for Around The World Italy Family Cooking Class and to get pro tips on Italian favorites like lasagna cupcakes, garlic bread and cannolis for dessert. The class is designed for parents and kids to cook together. A minimum of one adult is required to join each group. Reserve a group spot for $45.
