“Cancer: the Emperor of All Maladies,” a new Ken Burns documentary based on a book by the same name, will air on KCPT beginning March 30. The six-hour doc, which will air on three consecutive nights, delves deeply into the topic of cancer in America: treatment options, the business behind the disease and the healthcare disparities minorities face, for example.
KCPT and Flatland are screening a preview excerpt of the documentary next Tuesday, March 24, followed by a panel discussion. The panel, moderated by KCPT’s Nick Haines, will feature:
- Consuelo Ross, founder and president of Surviving the Odds, a nonprofit focused on the healthcare disparities for black women with breast cancer
- Dr. Doug Myers, a pediatric oncologist and hematologist at Children’s Mercy Hospital
- Dr. Keith August, a pediatric oncologist and hematologist at Children’s Mercy Hospital
- Dr. Roy Jensen, director of KU’s Cancer Center
