The High Kings Perform “Ride On” During Live On The Bridge

Every week, Flatland brings you stories from around Kansas City, so this week we’re taking you in studio at our sister station, 90.9 The Bridge, for a peek at a band set to take the stage and hit the airwaves this weekend.
The High Kings sat down with 90.9 The Bridge’s Jon Hart to chat about their music and inspiration. While in studio, they played three songs (see the playlist below to listen to the whole session), including “Ride On.”
In the video above, you’ll hear a slightly sped-up cover of Christy Moore’s 1984 version of “Ride On,” which was originally written by the famous Irish songwriter Jimmy MacCarthy. The High Kings changed it up by adding a catchy low flute melody that holds the song together. The dynamics of the song change dramatically throughout, giving it new life.
Catch this band out at the Kansas City Irish Fest Labor Day weekend. They perform at 7:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31 on the Miller Lite Stage at Crown Center. Then, watch “Live on the Bridge” at 10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1 for the The High Kings’ performance and interview on Kansas City PBS.
Live On The Bridge airs at 10 p.m. Saturdays on KCPT.
