Artists in Residence: Chris Haghirian on KC Bands Together

If live music is your emotional oxygen, you must be gasping two months into the COVID-19 social distancing shutdown.
Local music promoter and 90.9 The Bridge radio host Chris Haghirian wanted to do something about it, not just for unemployed gig musicians but also for their audiences. So he and a host of friends organized the KC Bands Together online music festival scheduled for this weekend.
“I miss live music. I miss music festivals…,” Haghirian explains. KC Bands Together is designed to “try to take that idea and put it in this nice box, and put it in your living room.”
You can watch 20 local bands during livestreams Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16, from 8:30 to 11 p.m. via 90.9 The Bridge’s Facebook page. On Friday, May 22 at 8 p.m., KCPT Kansas City PBS will air an hour-long highlight reel of the event. The audio also will be broadcast on The Bridge.
