Art House | Horror in the Heartland

Art House has a spooktacular film recommendation for this pre-Halloween weekend.
Watch as local horror auteur Patrick Rea discusses his latest film, “They Wait in the Dark.” The feature-length movie, filmed in Chanute, Kansas, tracks a young mother and her adopted son as they escape an abusive relationship and seek refuge in her dead mother’s abandoned house.
As it turns out, there really is no place like home.
“I wanted to make a movie that dealt with the supernatural as well as a very real threat,” Rea said.
Mission accomplished.
Rea, a prolific independent filmmaker who often works on a shoestring budget, continues to find a wider audience among horror fans. “They Wait in the Dark” — available on Amazon Prime, Apple TV and Vudu — garnered a strong review earlier this year in The New York Times.
