Art House Extra | ‘Summer in Hindsight’ Premieres Tonight at Boulevard Drive-In

We’re all pivoting in some fashion these days. But one of the best examples might just be “Summer in Hindsight,” a full-length feature film premiering tonight at the Boulevard Drive-In.
The folks behind The West 18th Street Fashion Show couldn’t pull off the usual festivities this year due to the pandemic. Instead, they produced a movie that puts local fashion and the creative process in the current context of COVID-19 and the social justice movement.
“It’s an experimental, narrative, visual, music film,” said director Khitam Jabr.
You can add another adjective: gorgeous.
The film, written by Peregrine Honig and filmed by Jeremy Osbern, follows Kansas City musician Calvin Arsenia as he encounters local creatives in many of Kansas City’s most iconic settings. It plays as an inspiring love letter to our city, and its citizens, in a rather dark moment.
“We touch on anxieties and emotions that people felt during COVID,” Jabr said.
Boulevard Drive-In, 1051 Merriam Lane in Kansas City, Kansas, has emerged as something of a hub of socially distanced cultural happenings this year. Tickets are still available for tonight’s showings at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
