Art House Extra | Former KU Athlete Chases Gold at Tokyo Olympics

You’ve got three chances to make years of sacrifice all worthwhile.
That, in a nutshell, is the narrative line in “Chasing Gold,” a new documentary short film that follows former University of Kansas discus thrower Mason Finley as he prepares for the recent Tokyo Olympics.
Filmmaker Edward Schroer has a unique perspective of Finley’s sacrifices. The two were roommates in college.
“I wanted to create this film to highlight Mason, lift him up, lift the sport up, and try and give it some much-needed spotlight,” Schroer said.
That it does, thanks in part to the cinematography of Daniel Christopher-Blackwell, who captures the balletic grace and power of a rather obscure sport.
