Northland Ethnic Festival & Other Weekend Possibilities

The Guadalupe Center’s Taco Dinner is back. Get four fried tacos and rice ($6) at the benefit for the center’s recreation program. Dine at the center (1015 Avenida Cesar E. Chavez) or take dinner home.

The world is your oyster or, in this case, your egg roll. The Northland Ethnic Festival is from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Park Hill South High School (4500 NW River Park Drive, Riverside, Missouri). See traditional performances and crafts from around the world while munching on bites from Europe, Asia and South America. Admission is free.

Brunch is often just an excuse to find a good mimosa. Riverside Red-X (2401 NW Platte Road, Riverside, Missouri) gets you. The grocer is hosting Sip & Savor from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. It’s a beer, wine and spirits sampling. The KC Fooditude food truck will be parked outside serving pizza and BBQ (see, it’s brunch).

Dive into gyros, lentil balls and baklava at the Turkic Food Festival (4215 Shawnee Drive, Kansas City, Kansas) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The event is hosted by the Dialogue Institute of Kansas City.

Eat your way across Shawnee without leaving Johnson Drive. The fourth annual Taste of Shawnee (11600 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas) is from 3 to 6 p.m. The event, hosted by the Rotary Club of Shawnee, benefits End Polio Now, Shawnee Community Services, the rotary club’s foundation and Newhouse. Keep an eye out for Ruchi Indian cuisine. Tickets are available at the gate, and wine and beer will also be for sale.

Good things happen when you work together. Mothers Brewing Co. and J. Rieger & Co. have collaborated on a new beer. The Imperial Coffee Stout, “Amaro Grind,” (11% ABV) was aged in J. Rieger’s Cafe Amaro barrels. The brewery based in Springfield, Missouri, will release bottles at the brewery this Saturday.

Life on the farm doesn’t just change with the seasons. Discover what’s happening in rural America at Indie Lens Pop-Up | Look & See: Wendell Berry’s Kentucky. KCPT, alongside the Kansas City Public Library and UMKC, presents a screening of a documentary starring Berry at the library’s Plaza branch (4801 Main St.) from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The film, which examines what is happening in rural Kentucky from the noted essayist’s perspective, will be followed by a discussion.

Lean in to the green. Lifted Spirits (1734 Cherry St.) is hosting an Absinthe Launch Party from 4 to 11 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Taste the latest spirit — made with anise seed, wheat, wormwood, chamomile, peppermint, spearmint and sweet fennel — from the Crossroads distillery. Bottles will also be available for purchase.

How does a cupcake bakery celebrate an opening? With all the cupcakes. Cupcakin Bakery is hosting a soft opening from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Oak Park Mall (11149 W. 95th St., Overland Park, Kansas). This is the second location for Cupcakin, which also has a spot at 2311 E. 12th St.
